Mars Komagatake Limited Edition 2019 is a Single Malt from the Mars Shinshu distillery, located in the Nagano region, at the heart of the Japanese Alps. Wakatsuru Shozou Distillery is one of the long established, but not well known Japanese distilleries. Wakatsuru Distillery obtained a license to distill whisky in 1953 and has been producing a small amount of whisky on and off since this time. This bottle is a 10-year-old whisky from the little known Wakatsuru Shuzou distillery in Toyama. This amazing whisky is the 2019 edition of their popular Moon Glow 10 Year Old. The liquid is smooth and full of many different interesting notes that excite your palate from first moment to last.
The Taketsuru range is named after the founder of the Nikka Whisky Company, Masataka Taketsuru. The Taketsuru whiskies are a combination of single malt whiskies from Nikka's two distilleries, Yoichi and Miyagikyo. In the 17 year old, a high percentage of the whiskies have been aged in ex-sherry casks, resulting in a deep, rich, complex whisky with more than a hint of smoke and oak.
Nikka Taketsuru 21 Year Old is an outstanding dram, so much so that it was awarded World's Best Blended Malt Whisky in the World Whiskies Awards 2010. This one has lots of lovely coffee and chocolate notes on the palate, and it is just divine.
